DIFFERENT TYPES OF FOOD
It has been found that bearded dragons will eat most any kind of insects without discrimination. There is one insect that you most definitely do not want to feed your dragon, which is a firefly. This will kill your dragon. There is a high level of what is believed to be a steroid in the firefly, that basically overdoses your dragon, and nothing good comes from this. Do not feed your dragon fireflies! Roaches-There are many different kinds of roaches found as feeders, and are commonly used through the reptile community. Most times it is easy to start a roach colony, which in turn, helps cover food expense. Usually baby bearded dragons will love nymphs (ex. lobster roach, dubia). You want to check with the specifications of each roach before feeding. There are some adult roaches that have sharp edges in the digestive system of the dragon which can lacerate its insides(ex madagascar hissers). So its important to know exactly what roaches you are feeding. Crickets- Crickets are one of the most common feeder insects. To find the right sized cricket, you want it to be no bigger in length than the distance between the eyes of the animal. Worms- There are a lot of different kinds of worms. Superworms, meal worms, wax worms, mini mealworms. All of these are good food sources, but should be given in moderation. It is not recommended to feed meal worms to dragons under 8". Attributing the fact to the animals being too small, they will not be able to digest the exoskeleton of the worm or worms fed in excess. Fruits and veggies- As a dragon grows in size, they become more dependent on their greens than their bugs. You want to offer them some leafy greens such as romaine lettuce, collard greens, dandelion, etc. You can also offer your dragon fruits as well, such as raspberries, mango, etc. Check out that specific food before feeding it to your animal to make sure there is no problems with that food.
